History project recalls rivers’ past

VOLUNTEERS are needed for an oral history project aiming to bring to life the River Arun and Rother’s past.

Arun and Rother Connections (ARC) is looking for people to help between May and August.

“We are hoping to mine a rich seam of local history through interviewing people and finding out what their stories are. This will be a valuable record of the heritage and culture of the area,” said Rachel Carless, ARC project manager.

Volunteers interested in conducting interviews can capture the memories of people in Arun and Rother and create a database of stories which will give an insight into the area and its history.

People with 11 hours to spare can help the ARC understand how the area has changed over time and what day-to-day life used to be like.

The interview questions have already been prepared and each volunteer is only expected to carry out one interview.

The ARC is also keen to hear from people who live in the Arun and Rother rivers area and can contribute stories.
