Key government role for Beach resident Frank

The successful academy chief executive and former head teacher will play a key role in the government’s education reforms.

Mr Green, whose wife Kate taught in Shoreham for years, was also made a CBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list in June for services to education.

Schools minister Lord Nash said: “Frank Green has already been a brilliant servant to education in this country. He has been an inspiring classroom teacher and a brilliant head.

“Most recently he has led one of the most successful academy chains, with a track record of turning round under-performing schools. His is an enviable record.”

In his new role, he will be challenging schools and local authorities to raise standards for all children, particularly promoting the benefits of academies and free schools.

Mr Green said: ““I am delighted to be taking up this vital role at such an exciting and ambitious time for education in England.

“I want to champion all schools, not just academies and free schools, and look forward to seeing standards continue to rise across the board.

“I have direct experience of transforming schools that are under-performing and also maintaining that improvement once achieved, so I understand the challenges many schools face in order to perform at the highest level for their pupils.”

Mr Green will be working for the Department for Education over the next two years, recruiting academy sponsors and encouraging collaboration between schools.

He is currently chief executive officer at The Leigh Academies Trust in Dartford. He launched the trust in 2008 and has turned it into one of the highest-achieving state comprehensives in England.

Mr Green started out as a science teacher and has since enjoyed a successful 40-year career.
