Large barn fire in Cuckfield: engines from Burgess Hill, Crawley, Haywards Heath and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service sent to scene

Firefighters from across Sussex tackled a large barn fire in Cuckfield this morning (Wednesday, August 17).

A spokesperson for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “At 6.31am we responded to a agricultural building fire at Cherry Lane, Cuckfield.

“At its peak, six fire engines from Burgess Hill, Crawley, Haywards Heath and East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service were sent to the scene, as well as a water carrier from Surrey, and an off-road vehicle from Haywards Heath.”

The spokesperson said that firefighters dealt with ‘a large barn fire involving an electrical intake’ and used extinguishers to put out the blaze.

People were encouraged to avoid the area while the fire was brought under control.

WSFRS confirmed on Twitter that the fire has now been extinguished.

“The fire was of accidental ignition, and crews left the scene at around 8.30am,” said a spokesperson.
