It will be the seventh time it has been held and promises to be bigger and noisier.

The parade celebrates the end of the primary school for Year 6 children.

Moving On 2008 will be designed, constructed and prepared at school by pupils assisted by volunteers and a team of locally-based professional carnival designers and artists.

Arts workshops and rehearsals will also be held in all participating schools during the three weeks leading to the parade.

This event is coordinated by PATINA, which is an independent voluntary association of parents, teachers and members of the community.

Stevie Auden, an executive committee member of PATINA, said: 'Every year we raise the money to put on this wonderful event and we are extremely grateful and wish to thank are main supporters.

'Rees Elliot has been extremely generous supporting us year in year out, and this year we are very pleased to be able to thank the Lewes Chamber of Commerce who worked hard in 2007 to raise money from local businesses for this year's event.

'We also have two new supporters for 2008, Brewers Decorating Materials and Angel Properties Ltd and we hope to benefit from the support of the Arts Council of England.

'We look to each participating school to make direct cash contribution.

'The project is also supported by many other local businesses from all over the town who all give us at least 300.

'We can not thank all our contributors enough, without whom the children would not be able to have this wonderful day that they have come to expect as a rite of passage.'
