Charity organisation, Impact Initiatives, hosted the event at the Dingemans Centre, Shooting Field, in Steyning last Tuesday to celebrate the contributions of older people to the community.

Donna Bailey, Older People’s Services Manager, Impact Initiatives, said: “ A hot buffet lunch was enjoyed by around 30 people, including new visitors to the centre, plus others popping in for coffee.

“There was fantastic entertainment from a ukulele band in the afternoon, everyone had a song sheet to sing along to their favourite songs.

“We launched the new Gourmet Geezers men only cookery club in the afternoon and there are spaces still available for men over 55 who would like to learn about healthy eating and cooking on a budget. It’s good social space for men, and they enjoy the fruits of their labour at the end of the session. All in all, a great way to celebrate Older People’s Day and to sample life at the Dingemans Centre.”

The event aims to challenge negative attitudes and stereotypes and to celebrate older people’s achievements and role within the community.
