It’s only three weeks away now so start planning for the Mountfield Bonfire and Fireworks on Friday, November 1, 6.00 pm at the usual site on Solomon’s Lane. As ever, there will be refreshments. Put it in the diary now and plan what friends and family to invite for the fun. If you are interested in pitching in, in any way, contact Caroline Hollamby on 880056 or via [email protected].

Jackie Spriggs writes: “Mountfield Church is an exquisite example of a 12th Century Norman church at any time, and decorated for one of the festivals is especially beautiful. Last sunday for Harvest Thanksgiving it glowed in the glorious colours of autumn, tawny russets, golds and reds of the flower arrangements augmented by fruits and vegetables as well as dried comestibles to be donated to the St. Nicholas Fellowship in St. Leonards-on-Sea.

“The Rev’d John Hawkins conducted the service to a good congregation who lustily sang the traditional harvest hymns, praising the song of ‘harvest home’ and ‘ploughing the fields and scattering’ and giving thanks for all the good gifts around us.

“After all the singing the congregation was grateful to stroll along the road to the Villy Jawl for a grand tea and natter, and meeting up with farming folk and beekeepers. Grateful thanks to all who helped prepare the church and the tea for this festival so pertinent to a rural farming community.”

Steve Smith has sent u this news from the Mounfield Club: Having lost their unbeaten start to the season at Battle last week, the Mountfield snooker team bounced back with a fine 4-1 home win over Burwash Common A who were at the time second in Division 3. Mountfield raced to a 4-0 lead with wins for Sean Spillett, Richard Hayler, Kevin Gray and Alex Gray with the help of a 15 break. The Burwash captain beat Steve Smith in the final frame but nothing could take away from a fine performance by Mountfield who now go second in the table.

On Saturday 19th October the Club is hosting a Family Quiz night. It will be a fun evening with subjects such as TV theme tunes, music, general knowledge and more. Admission is £3.00 per person which will include a buffet and all non-members are welcome. If interested, please phone Steve Smith to book your place on 07720 298971

And a happy note to end on. We are pleased to hear from Robin that the little terrier he reported missing last week, was safely found a few days later. Though we’re just still trying to get our heads round the fact that she is called Eric…
