Leading International Specialists – many who worked at Sotheby’s over the years - from a wide range of disciplines from Sporting Memorabila to Sporting Guns & Rifles through to Postage Stamps and Coins & Medals will be available at Summers Place, Billingshurst, West Sussex to offer valuations between 10am-2.30pm. There will be a charge of £2 per consultation which will be donated to St Catherine’s Hospice.

Among the Experts on the day will be:

Gavin Gardiner is one of the country’s leading sporting gun auctioneers and has over 30 years experience selling high profile and prestigious sporting guns and rifles. He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Gunmakers and worked for Sotheby’s for over 20 years. Holding three auctions of Sporting Guns each year (in London and Scotland), he regularly attends valuation days around the UK as well as overseas viewing suitable entries for future auctions. His next auction at will be held at Sotheby’s in December.

Richard Ashton is now beginning his 50th year as a stamp specialist; he has always worked in the auction environment. Richard’s career started at the specialist stamp auctioneer Harmer Rooke in London; this firm was taken over by Stanley Gibbons as their auction outlet. Peter Wilson, of Sotheby’s, then asked Richard to join them and he became a senior director responsible for the stamp auctions. Richard’s field of expertise is truly international and he has sold nearly all the great world rarities during his career. He has handled the sale of many well known people including, The Ameer of Bahawalpur; Sir Maxwell Joseph; Yul Brynner; Lady Mairi Bury and Lord Steinberg.

Graham Budd Auctions Ltd holds two auctions a year at Sotheby’s New Bond Street Saleroom. Graham Budd, the company’s founder, gained 25 years experience in the auction business working for Sotheby’s, where he was a Deputy Director and Head of Sporting Memorabilia. High profile Sotheby’s auctions that Graham curated include the sale of the Lester Piggott collection, and the auction for the late Sir Stanley Matthews. Their sales include fine quality sporting memorabilia encompassing football, golf, cricket, tennis, horse racing, motor sports, rugby, Olympics, boxing and a wide variety of other popular sports. Content includes medals, caps, shirts, cup & trophies, as well as autographs, programmes, tickets, books, decorative objects, pictures, posters and ephemera and all other things sporting. His next auction will be held at Sotheby’s in November.

Morton & Eden Ltd, founded in 2001 by James Morton and Tom Eden, are specialist auctioneers of Collectors’ Coins of all periods and types, War Medals, Orders and Decorations, Historical Medals and Banknotes. Many of their staff are former members of the Coins & Medals Department at Sotheby’s, with whom we maintain a close association. Their next sale will be held at Sotheby’s in November and will include an Elizabeth I, silver crown, 1601-02, which is estimated at £7,000-£10,000.
