‘Crate’ Expectations as postman discovers wild animals in his van

Crates containing various wild animals were discovered by a Horsham postman this week – but luckily the animals were more furry than ferocious.

An elephant, rhino and polar bear were among the critters hiding in crates in the back of Postie Martin Melaugh’s van, on the way to their new homes. They were all part of a brand new batch of ‘adoption’ animals being sent out by wildlife charity Care for the Wild, based in Brighton Road.

Care for the Wild CEO Philip Mansbridge said: “We apologise for giving our postman a shock when he saw these crates! They do have a warning on them saying that they are wild animals in transit – but luckily there’s nothing dangerous in there!

“Wildlife around the world is under huge threat at the moment, so by adopting one of these animals people can know they are supporting our work…which is a ‘crate’ thing to do!”

Care for the Wild is a charity based in Sussex dedicated to the protection of wildlife in the UK and abroad.
