LETTER: Support for world class exhibition

I would like to thank publicly a group of volunteers without whom Horsham could not have enjoyed the sight of world class treasures.

During the warm summer of 2013 a loyal and dedicated band of volunteers kindly staffed the ‘Japanese Treasures: Cloisonné Enamels from the V&A’ exhibition. Without the Horsham Charity Christmas Card Shop volunteers and Horsham Museum volunteers, who invigilated for six hours a day, week in week out for 14 weeks, Horsham Museum could not have held the exhibition.

Tourists from as far afield as Russia came and viewed the amazing exhibition and the volunteers provided a warm welcome and engaged with the visitors.

Although out of season (the Christmas Card Charity Shop opens on 17 October), Alan Britten, their organiser, managed to persuade his members to step in and help the museum out.

This was a great response and along with our volunteers and the support of Toovey’s, it enabled Horsham District Council’s Horsham Museum and Art Gallery to host the exhibition from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
