LETTER: Why sensitivity over this site?

Following Roger Arthur’s recent letter (WSCT Sept 3 ‘Inspector must tackle key issues’, ) I read with interest the comments by readers on your website where the West of Ifield site was raised again.

A member of the public wrote ‘why on earth should Horsham be taking Crawley’s housing shortfall when there is a perfectly suitable site right there on the edge of Crawley?’

And another wrote ‘...this entire debacle is the result of Horsham and Crawley dumping houses where they are neither needed nor wanted for the sole purpose of protecting Ifield Golf Club. This will be highlighted if and when the Judicial Review is allowed to go ahead’.

So why is there such sensitivity about the Ifield site? Where was the objective, detailed evaluation done on this site to exclude it when both Horsham District Council and Crawley Borough Council originally agreed that it was a suitable site?

Why was Mr Symonds, in his letter, so critical of Dr Richardson calling him ‘smart or stupid’ for questioning why the west of Ifield site had been dropped off the radar?

The High Court judge at the Judicial Review will want to test whether there has been a legal process behind this and other decisions.
