Pupil pens winning poem

Rosie Hervan, an eight-year-old pupil at Pennthorpe School in Rudgwick, has won a national poetry competition which got the thumbs up from Michael Gove, Secretary of State for Education.

Rosie’s winning poem, The Earthworm, will be published in the next book in the Felicity Fly series.

Christina Gabbitas, author of the six rhyming books in the series and mastermind of the competition, said: “We have some very talented children in our primary schools, which we should be shouting about.

“I received lots of fabulously imaginative writing from all corners of the UK; the very best were chosen by a panel of twenty judges and some of the most impressive poems will be published in a special national rhyming poetry book.

“The demand has been so high for the competition in its second year.”

Judges included the founder of the peoples book prize and TSL Education, the largest teaching network in the UK and worldwide.
