Same old gripes

THERE has been much said in recent weeks and many quarters have pontificated about the much-needed and belated safe crossing facilities now appearing adjacent to the Morrisons superstore, which opened earlier this year, in Wick.

It has been obvious to the public from your news reports that there has been a lack of cohesion, not for the first time, between the highways and development control authorities in formulating the infrastructure needs for the area, following the development of large projects like Morrisons.

With the current prospect of 600 more dwellings now on the horizon at the adjacent Courtwick site, it is to be hoped similar requirements are not being overlooked.

Despite the amount of crusader activity, including my contribution, which has taken place on the public’s behalf, I feel the person who has been most responsible for bringing about this important requirement is county councillor Nigel Peters.

Without his intervention and forceful determination, these secure arrangements at Wick would not yet have been concluded.

I am sure he will encourage closer co-operation in the future between the responsible councils concerning this very essential element for the public’s protection.
