School awash with colour to support Kenyan shopping centre attack

Tanbridge House School was awash with the colours of the Kenyan Flag on Friday when staff and students came to school wearing items of red, green and black clothing in a bid to raise money for victims of the Westgate Shopping Centre attack in Kenya.

Tanbridge decided to hold the event to coincide with a visit from John Murumba, Headteacher of Tanbridge’s partner school in Kiminini, Kenya; the Masaba Friends School.

Students were only too willing to get involved after Mr Murumba delivered a series of inspirational assemblies over the course of the week. In total, the day has raised more than £1,250 which will be donated to the Red Cross to help victims of the atrocities which took place last month in Kenya.

The non-uniform event marked the end of a week-long visit from Mr Murumba.

At the start of the week, Tanbridge presented him with the last of the £8,000 that they have raised over the past few years to help the Masaba School to build a Library.

Headteacher Jules White said: “It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Murumba to our school once again and we were delighted to present him with the final amount towards the Library at Masaba.

“It was also lovely to see our students and staff going out of their way on Friday to help those in need. Mr Murumba commented at how touched he was to see the whole school making the effort and we are so pleased to have raised so much for such a worthwhile cause.”
