The tennis tournament was organised by Judy McMath of Wisborough Green.

Judy’s cousin started ‘Ripple Africa’ in 2003 and it now supports a community of around 20,000 family homes in the rural village of Mwaya, in the Nkhata Bay district of Malawi.

Its purpose is to give the families a ‘hand UP rather than a hand out’.

The charity is involved in many community projects but this particular tennis tournament was raising money for:

1. Education: When the charity was set up, children were having to walk for three hours to their secondary school. Now the charity has built a local school and employs/trains local teachers.

2. Healthcare: The local ambulance used to be a bicycle pulling a mattress. Now the charity has built a local clinic and employs local doctors.

The use of the tennis courts on the day were kindly donated by Billingshurst Tennis Club (www.billingshursttennisclub.com).

After the tournament finished, a delicious lunch was kindly donated by Fishers Farm (www.fishersfarmpark.co.uk) where the winners Alison Hill & Denise Denny received their prize.

A sum of £450 was raised and this money will go directly to ‘Ripple Africa’.
