Eastbourne resident Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Roberts celebrated her 100th birthday with a lunch at the Hydro Hotel. She is pictured with the card she received from the Queen. Betty’s granddaughter Laura proposed a toast, paying tribute to ‘a wonderful and incredible lady who has been an inspiration to her family and so many others’. Betty has belonged to many local groups including St Michael and All Angels Church, Alice Croft House Over 50s Club, Age Concern at the Venton Centre and the WRVS luncheon club. SUS-211029-104823001

Generations of families were reunited at Beechwood Grove care home’s intergenerational day, which brought all the fun of the fair to Eastbourne. Fire-eating, face-painting and card tricks were among the entertainment on offer at the event, which was the first of its kind to take place after lockdown restrictions had been lifted. A charity golf match at Lottbridge Golf Club raised just under £7,000 for Cuckoo for Cancer. Lizzie Young, volunteer for Cuckoo for Cancer, said: "The day was a resounding success with endless fun had by volunteers and golfers alike. Twenty-one teams attended, so with 84 bustling golfers’ spirits, competition was high." There was also a lunch, dinner and a raffle, all donated. Big-hearted residents and staff at a Hailsham care home have handed over delicious goodies to Hailsham Foodbank. The donation by Abbots Wood Manor Care Home, London Road, was organised by staff and residents as part of their community outreach programme.
