A battle has been launched to try to save fish at Southwater Country Park.

Recent hot weather has led a number of fish dying through a lack of oxygen.

But Horsham District Council, which owns the park, is now battling to save others.

A Horsham District Council spokesperson said: "The countryside wardens are aware of a small number of fish that have died and others rising to the surface in Lennoxwood lake at Southwater Country Park.

"Oxygen levels in the water have dropped because of the low water levels, high temperatures and lack of any wind to provide movement.

"This is a problem across many ponds and lakes in the south east at present."We are using an oxygenating pump to improve the situation.

"The Environment Agency have also provided advice and loaned us a second pump to help ease the situation.

"Staff will continue to monitor the lake but it will ultimately only improve with a change in the weather conditions.”
