Some of the dogs pictured are in care at RSPCA branches in neighbouring counties, but can be rehomed in Sussex. For more information, and to find out more about adopting one of the adorable dogs, visit the rescue’s website.
. Barney - eight year old Chihuahua crossbreed
Barney is a friendly, affectionate boy who enjoys a fuss and knows sit and his name on command. He loves to get out and about and explore and enjoys a nice long walk. Barney loves his food and will also play with toys, especially a soft one. Barney walks ok with other dogs but does not like any that are too boisterous with him. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home. He cannot live with cats or small animals. Barney is looking for an adult only home because he has never lived with children. He would ideally like someone who has previous experience with chihuahuas, terriers or smaller breeds. Anyone interested in adopting Barney must be willing to make multiple trips to the shelter, as he may need several introductions to get to know his potential new owner. Photo: RSPCA
. Tuck - 12 year old Parson Jack Russell Terrier
Tuck is a very sweet older lady, but don’t let her age fool because she still likes a run around and play and enjoys going out for a stroll! She would suit a quiet home with no other pets with a nice, enclosed garden to play and lay in the sun. Tuck makes friends easily and enjoys human company and she likes a lap to fall asleep on. She is looking for her retirement home where she can feel relaxed and loved. Photo: RSPCA
. Sam - ten year old German Shepherd
Sam loves people! He is incredibly friendly, affectionate and loves a cuddle. He can be reactive to other dogs if too close, which is due to bad experiences in his past and a lack of correct training and socialising. However, the team at the centre have been working on this and Sam is able to pass dogs at a distance while focusing on his handler. He has a big, thick coat and will need regular grooming. He is happy to be groomed all over and seems to enjoy the attention. Sam is looking for his retirement home to enjoy some home comforts ideally in a large enclosed garden to explore and play ball. Sam is currently in care at RSPCA's Stubbington Ark centre but can be rehomed in Sussex. Photo: RSPCA
. Pombear - two year old Spitz
Pombear is a bundle of energy who enjoys playing and will happily walk for miles. He can take time to make friends and is unsure of over handling by new people, once he feels comfortable with you he is such a cuddly boy! Pombear is currently being muzzle trained as he finds vet visits stressful and he will need to wear one in certain situations. He is doing well with his muzzle training but new adopters must be willing to carry this on in the home to keep up a positive association. Experience of the breed type will be essential to fully understand his traits and needs. He will need regular grooming as he has a thick double coat. Pombear will thrive in a quiet home with a secure garden to play in and active people who can give him long regular walks. Pombear is currently in care at RSPCA's Stubbington Ark centre but can be rehomed in Sussex - his adopter must visit multiple times to form a bond. Photo: RSPCA
. Otis - two year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Otis is a very sweet natured boy and a typical Staffie who isn’t coping well in kennels. The RSPCA said Otis is very food motivated which makes training him a dream, he however can be snatchy when taking treats. He gets frustrated when passing other dogs and the team has been working on rewarding calm behaviours when around other dogs. Otis has picked this up quickly but will need to continue this training when in a home, to help him not get so overwhelmed. He is looking for a quiet home environment with no more than three people where he can learn to settle. His new owners will need to be confident, so to give Otis the best chance in his new home where he can thrive. Otis is currently in care at RSPCA's Stubbington Ark centre but can be rehomed in Sussex. Photo: RSPCA
. George - 12 year old Cairn Terrier
George is a friendly, jolly gentleman. He is adorable and makes us all laugh! He loves a little fuss but is not a lap dog. He is very active for his age and he likes to play and chase with a toy, loves a game of ball and enjoys a good walk. He will not need huge amounts of exercise everyday, he is happy to occupy himself and lazing in a comfy bed. George has such a great character and is a happy older chap who enjoys everyday. He really deserves his dream home to spend his retirement years! George is currently in care at RSPCA's Stubbington Ark centre but can be rehomed in Sussex. Photo: RSPCA
. Erin - four month old Boxer cross
The RSPCA said Erin is an adorable, funny little troublemaker who is ready to find a new family. She is a clever girl who has already learnt her name, sit, paw, down and spin. She is learning to walk well on the lead but will need her confidence building on walks and she is quite noise sensitive. Erin loves her foster sister and would like to live with another playful, confident dog. She will need further socialising with other dogs. She, unfortunately, didn’t have the best start in life so would benefit from attending puppy classes to help learn some life skills. She loves to play and can be very boisterous especially when playing with other dogs. Erin loves her sleep especially if she can snuggle up with a human or dog. Photo: RSPCA
. Moose - four year old Mastiff
'Big Moose', as his name suggests, is a big boy weighing more than 60kg. Despite his size he thinks he is a lap dog and likes to try and sit on you. Moose is a gentle giant who generally walks well on the lead and is happy to plod alongside you. He can get excited when meeting other dogs and can become strong on the lead at times. His new owners will need to be able to manage his strength if he becomes reactive. Moose has recently recovered from a cruciate ligament surgery and has recently been able to go on walks again. This means that he has become sensitive to things in his environment such as strangers, transport, abrupt noises, and extreme weather. He has been building confidence daily on and off site but his new owners will need to be prepared to expose him slowly to new surroundings which may mean building up to short walks once he is settled within his new family. Potential owners need to be aware that they will need to visit the shelter multiple times on a regular basis so Moose can form a bond before taking him home. He is looking for a small family so he is not overwhelmed by too many handlers. He cannot be rehomed in Chichester or Portsmouth. Photo: RSPCA
. Alora - two year old Siberian Husky
The RSPCA said Alora is very sweet and super affectionate for a Husky and loves everyone she meets. She is 'an absolute cuddle bug' and super loving towards her handlers. She loves nothing more than to have tummy tickles and cuddles on the sofa. Alora will jump at any opportunity to get a cuddle and fuss off anyone, quite literally. She is very smart so she will need an active home that will take her to training classes and ensure she has enough exercise and mental enrichment. Alora can live with a neutered dog, depending on introductions, and can live with children aged 14 and above. She loves running around off the lead, so she will need access to a large secure garden with 6ft fencing. Alora has shown signs that she may struggle when being left, so will need someone based at home with her and then will need a very gradual build up to being left, potential owners do need to be prepared that this may take some time. . Moose - two year old Cane Corso cross
Moose is a 'super soppy', loving boy who loves cuddles and tickles. The kind-natured pup can often be found snuggled up in his bed. However, he loves to play with toys, especially footballs, but is also very good at sharing them with humans, the RSPCA said. Moose is a large dog and is strong on the lead so needs owners that are experienced with large breed dogs and that are physically able to hold him when out on walks. Moose sometimes forgets his size - because of this, he can live with children aged 14 and above that are used to big dogs, and will need to stay on the lead in public. He will need a large private garden with 6ft fencing and the charity said his owners will need to look at renting secure fields regularly so that Moose can have a good run around. He must be the only dog in his home. Photo: RSPCA
. Zeus - seven month old Husky
Zeus needs an adult-only home with owners who have experience with the Husky breed - however, he could possibly live with older teenagers that have lived with dogs before. He also may be able to live with an older calmer neutered female dog depending on introductions. Zeus has not had much socialisation or handling in his short life and can be worried by being handled. He has improved with this but he will need an understanding and patient home that will go slow with him. He is a super smart boy and loves training, so he will need a home that will take him to classes and will give him plenty of exercise and mental enrichment. Photo: RSPCA
. Freddy - eight month old Spaniel
Freddy is a very energetic, bouncy, busy boy! He knows sit and his name and enjoys his walks. He is an incredibly active boy who is looking for a home with someone who can match his energy. Freddy loves his toys and would happily play all day! He also loves his food and enjoys a puzzle feeder or kong. Freddy is great with other dogs and could live with one after suitable introductions at the shelter. He cannot live with cats or small animals or children. Freddy has exhibited resource guarding behaviours in his last home. He is ideally looking for someone who has previous experience of this or someone who is prepared to work with an RSPCA behaviourist to manage the behaviour in the home. Photo: RSPCA
. Gizmo - ten year old German Shepherd
Gizmo was found outside tied up in a concrete yard. He was found in very poor condition with a filthy, matted coat and was very undernourished. After a couple of months he has gained weight and is feeling much happier. He is a very friendly, affectionate boy who loves fuss and attention. He knows sit and his name, enjoys his walks and also likes a cuddle on the sofa. Gizmo is not keen on other dogs and would prefer to be the only pet in his new home. He really is a lovely boy who is friendly with everyone he meets and we would love for him to find a new home for his senior years. Photo: RSPCA
. Dewey - two year old Poodle cross
Dewey is a friendly, bouncy boy who still behaves like a pup and will need complete training. He is starting to learn his name and enjoys his walks although he would benefit from a little lead training. His coat will require regular upkeep at a groomers. Dewey walks well with most other dogs but can be a little worried and will need some further socialisation. He may be able to live with another dog with suitable introductions. He is looking for an active family with someone prepared to put time into his training. Dewey could live with older children who are experienced with dogs. Photo: RSPCA
. Luna - two year old Husky
Luna is a typical husky, she has bundles of energy and is really loud when she wants to be! She is an affectionate girl and enjoys a belly rub and a fuss. She will need experienced Husky owners that know about the breed and are able to provide her with the amount of exercise and mental enrichment she needs. She will also need a secure garden for off lead play with at least 6ft fencing as she is very agile. She is not too interested in toys yet, but will sometimes chase them. She is quite a strong girl and can be very lively on the lead, hence her alias Loopy Luna! She could live with another neutered dog in the home depending on introductions. Luna is in care at the RSPCA's Millbrook branch but can be adopted in Sussex. Photo: RSPCA
. Keiko - two year old Akita
Lovely Keiko was sadly found wandering in the woods. When she arrived at the RSPCA, it was clear to see that she was not in a good way, she was extremely underweight and her eyes were in a really poor state. She also had fluid in her intestines, from where she had been starved. Keiko is now looking for a new home that can give her the love and care that she deserves. She was rehomed but then was returned to the rescue because she was wary of the man in the house. Keiko has been ok with most other men but if there are men in her new home then they will need to come and meet Keiko a few times, to make sure she is comfortable. The RSPCA said the moment Keiko arrived the team could see what a sweet girl she was, even after everything she had been through. 'She is definitely reliving her puppyhood', they said, as she can be very playful and full on a times, she probably didn't have much of a puppyhood. Keiko loves attention and loves being with people so she will need someone based at home and then will need a gradual build up to being left. Keiko may need a refresher in housetraining and car travel training. She will need direct access to a private fully secure garden with 6ft fencing. Keiko is a young dog and has lots of energy, so she will need a home that can provide her with plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. She is currently in care at the RSPCA's Millbrook branch but can be adopted in Sussex. Photo: RSPCA
