1st Old Town Scout group have been given a cheque for £500 by Eastbourne Police, from the Sussex Police Property Act Fund, which they plan to use to pay for the maintenance and repair of their large canvas tents. Group Scout Leader Mike Standen was delighted with the donation and said that as one of the few remaining groups to use the traditional tents he was pleased the group could now pay to have them properly cleaned, repaired and weather-proofed. A small group of Sussex Archaeological Society members, led by president Professor Martin Bell, paid an autumn visit to Pevensey where the society’s first general meeting was held 175 years ago. Following a special tour of Pevensey Castle they were welcomed to the Court House Museum (visited as the Town Hall in 1846) by the hon curator, Peter Harrison. Cub Scouts and their Leaders from 2nd Willingdon Scout Group recently braved the cold weather and returned to camping to enjoy their first three nights under canvass as a group, since the pandemic restrictions of last year. During their weekend at local campsite Bushy Wood, the Cubs enjoyed an active programme of scouting activities that involved camp fires and playing adventurous wide games, many of which were in the dark. With only ropes and staves they also built some spectacular dining tables. SUS-211117-135642001
Three local business mums organised a successful charity event raising money for the Conquest Special Care Baby Unit in Hastings. Jen Fisher of Mini First Aid East Sussex Brighton and Hove, Louise Bicknell of Dave and Maddie, and Marie Williams of More Than Cake raised £188 to fund items for babies and parents at the unit. The session was to train seven local parents and carers in potentially life saving first aid skills for their little ones,, and was held at More Than Cake in Eastbourne. SUS-211117-120709001
