Eastbourne RNLI lifeboats launched in multiple multi-agency searches
Lifeboats from Eastbourne RNLI were launched multiple times at the start of 2026 as part of multi-agency searches.
The RNLI’s lifeboat was launched for the first time in 2026 on Sunday, January 4 at 1pm following a report of a missing person.

The spokesperson said: “The ILB (Inshore Lifeboat) launched into sunny but very cold conditions and conducted a full shoreline search of the area between Sovereign Harbour and Cow Gap, working closely with Coastguard Rescue Teams from Newhaven, Birling Gap, Eastbourne and Bexhill as well as Sussex Police officers.
“The area was thoroughly saturated, however no persons were located. Solent Coastguard stood down the ILB crew and they returned to station to warm up, while partner agencies continued their enquiries inland.”
Crews were tasked a day later on Monday, January 5 at 9.56pm to assist a multi-agency search west of Eastbourne.
The spokesperson added: “Both of our lifeboats launched on service last night to assist with a multi-agency search to the west of Eastbourne.
“Our crews worked alongside multiple Coastguard Rescue Teams, Sussex Police officers, and the Coastguard helicopter 'Rescue 363', with all agencies covering the area effectively.
“Fortunately, shoreside assets located the missing person and both lifeboats were stood down and returned safely to station.
“Routine post-recovery checks and preparations were then carried out to ensure the boats were ready for the next service call, which was made challenging due the low temperatures turning the wash-down hoses into ice lollies.
“In a coastal emergency, dial 999 or 112 and ask for the Coastguard."
