Emergency sinkhole works take place in Worthing

Emergency works have been carried out to repair a sinkhole in a Worthing road.

Lansdowne Road was closed on Tuesday (September 8) following the discovery of a ‘void’.

A West Sussex County Council (WSCC) spokesperson said: “A permanent repair to a void in the road on Lansdowne Road, Worthing, was completed yesterday (September 9).

"The road was temporarily closed to allow the work to be carried out safely and has now reopened.”

West Sussex Labour Group leader Councillor Martin McCabe said the sinkhole was ‘concerning for residents’.

He said: “As Labour Group leader, improving our roads and highways service is one of the issues I will continue to push hard on. Residents pay their council tax and quite reasonably expect roads that are safe and properly maintained.”
