A spokesman for the council said: “The town trio have been taking inspiration from deputy mayor, Matt’s daughter, Emily, who made headlines getting fit while raising funds for charity in lockdown.

“Emily challenged herself to run 3k per day during February but this fantastic young lady exceeded everyone’s expectations and managed to run 108k, raising an incredible £2,270 – that’s lots of pressure for our awesome town trio to beat!

Their chosen charity, Time4Children, is based in Haywards Heath and is dedicated to improving the emotional wellbeing of children.

Mr McPherson said: “We are proud to be running the Mayor’s Marathon for such an important local charity.

“Time4Children is a small charity that I know very well and who do brilliant work to support children locally.

“Especially at this time, Time4Children can provide them with the time to explore and voice their feelings, at their own pace, in a safe environment.”
