Lewes and Eastbourne councils issue warning to businesses about scam calls
Lewes District and Eastbourne Borough councils have issued a warning to businesses about ‘fraudulent telephone calls’ pretending to be part of the councils’ licensing team.
A spokesperson said: “We have been made aware of fraudulent telephone calls claiming to be from Lewes District & Eastbourne Borough councils’ Licensing Team.

“The calls are targeted at licenced premises asking them to pay for their annual licensing fee as their licence has expired.
“If you receive any calls asking for payment for outstanding annual licensing fees, please do not make any payment and check with either our Licensing Department via 01323 410000 (Eastbourne) / 01273 471600 (Lewes) asking for our licensing team. Our Licensing department can also be emailed via: [email protected]
“Usually, requests for outstanding annual licensing fees would be sent via email and/or post with an invoice attached. On occasions our licensing department may contact you by telephone if a payment remains outstanding, so if you are unsure at all, please check with one of the departments above before making payment.”
