Lions launch winter fuel payment campaign to help people in Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate
People in Shoreham, Southwick and Fishersgate affected by fuel poverty are being helped by Adur East Lions this winter.
The charity has launched its Wenceslas Project to help local people who are struggling with heating their home and cooking their food.
The Sussex Community Foundation has granted the Lions £3,250 to help us with the appeal but to widen the reach, it is hoped those who can afford it will boost the funds by donating their winter fuel allowance.
Lion Susan Saunders said: “Many local people struggle to afford to stay warm and cook during the winter. We anticipate that this will be true again this year.

“People tend to think of Lions solely in terms of fundraising but our key mission is service and helping those in fuel poverty is a wonderful example of this. Over the past few years, Adur East Lions have helped currently 254 families with their fuel bills.
“Now that winter fuel payments have been reinstated for many, we are asking whether, if you can, you could pass on your winter fuel payment or make a donation to us and we will ensure it goes directly to those in fuel poverty. By working with local agencies such as Citizen's Advice, local food banks and councillors, we can target this need.”
Donate online at www.lionsgiving.co.uk/appeal/adureastwenceslas or send a cheque payable to Adur East Lions Club CIO Charity, endorsed with 'Wenceslas' on the back, to Lion Frances Burt, 27 Hillside, Southwick BN42 4QD.
Susan said: “If we are to help all those who need it, we rely on the generosity of those who are receiving their winter fuel allowance but really feel they don't need it. Every payment is made directly to the energy companies, ensuring that all monies received are spent on gas and electricity.”
Clients may be referred to the Wenceslas Project, by the Citizens Advice Bureau and Age UK, among others.
