The pooches below are in care at several animal rescues and foster homes across Sussex, including: RSPCA, Dogs Trust, Raystede and People’s Animal Welfare Society (PAW Society).
Many of them have sadly been without homes for months or even years…
Brian, in care at Dogs Trust Shoreham, has spent over half of his life in kennels. He is looking for a quiet home without any other pets, as he finds sharing challenging.
PAW Society’s Kenny, who is in foster care in Burgess Hill, has been waiting for a forever home for nearly two years. Having begun his life being rescued from a forest in Romania at just a few weeks old, he’s desperate to finally get his second chance at happiness.
RSPCA’s Leon found himself in kennels because he was uncomfortable living with the toddler in his previous home. He’s looking for an understanding, adult-only family who can help him overcome his shyness.

5. Luna - four-year-old Shar-Pei (RSPCA)
Luna is bright and active girl looking for owners who can appreciate 'the quirky and funny character that she is'. The RSPCA said she often makes everyone at the centre laugh, and can be very goofy. She'd be best living in an adult-only home or with older secondary children. She is very clean in the home and is crate trained. Typical of her breed, Luna comes with a list of known allergies. This will need to be carefully managed in the home as she is also a scrounger and will try to find snacks, the RSPCA said. She can be reactive on the lead and shows no interest in making canine friends. In her new home, she would benefit from positive, reward-based training. 6. Crystal - five-year-old Husky cross Akita (RSPCA)
Crystal is a big, bouncy girl who can be quite strong on the lead and is looking for an experienced owner. She is very friendly and enjoys attention. Due to her breed mix, she will need plenty of mental stimulation to keep her entertained. Crystal has lived with dogs in her previous home and will be socialised further while at the shelter, the RSPCA said. She is looking for a home with adults or teenagers who are used to dogs. Crystal is a new arrival who is still being assessed at the moment. View Crystal's profile here: https://rspca-brighton.org.uk/project/crystal/ Photo: RSPCA

7. Brian - two-year-old crossbreed (Dogs Trust)
Brian is a fun-loving Terrier with tonnes of playful energy and a super-smart brain. Although he is only a youngster at two-years-old, Brian has sadly spent over half of his life in kennels. His perfect setup would be somewhere quiet and peaceful, where he could relax in the company of an adult-only family. He is happy to have canine walking buddies but will need to be the only pet at home as he finds it challenging when it comes to sharing. Likewise, Brian would benefit from an undisturbed area of the house where he can take himself off to rest, or where he could go to for his mealtimes. A secure garden of his own to zoom about in is essential. See Brian's profile here: https://www.dogstrust.org.uk/rehoming/dogs/crossbreed/1261073 Photo: Dogs Trust

8. Peppy - nine-year-old Patterdale Terrier cross (Dogs Trust)
Dogs Trust said Peppy is a 'one-of-a-kind pooch who has an abundance of character'. His perfect match would be an adult-only family with minimal visitors and no visiting children, who share his passion for the outdoors. Peppy is super-smart and keen to learn, so he makes for an excellent student! While he will need to be the only pet at home, he enjoys walking next to a familiar canine pal and has progressed brilliantly with his social skills. A secure garden of his own is essential, so that he can regularly burn off some steam. Another essential requirement is a multi-carer household, so that there’s always someone around to keep him company, as he finds alone-time challenging.
