The pooches below are in care at several animal rescues and foster homes across Sussex, including: RSPCA, Dogs Trust, Raystede and People’s Animal Welfare Society (PAW Society).
Many of them have sadly been without homes for months or even years…
Brian, in care at Dogs Trust Shoreham, has spent over half of his life in kennels. He is looking for a quiet home without any other pets, as he finds sharing challenging.
PAW Society’s Kenny, who is in foster care in Burgess Hill, has been waiting for a forever home for nearly two years. Having begun his life being rescued from a forest in Romania at just a few weeks old, he’s desperate to finally get his second chance at happiness.
RSPCA’s Leon found himself in kennels because he was uncomfortable living with the toddler in his previous home. He’s looking for an understanding, adult-only family who can help him overcome his shyness.

9. Alfie - seven-year-old Collie (Dogs Trust)
Alfie has a gentle, quiet character and a lot of love to give. A sensitive chap at times, he can find new experiences overwhelming and will often seek reassurance from his humans. He’s hopeful to find patient adopters, who will allow him plenty of time to settle into his new routine, without too much pressure or expectation. Alfie is a real ‘foodie’ and highly values his mealtimes and chews. He can find it challenging when people approach him whilst he is eating, or if they try and take food items away from him. Due to his timid nature and his worries around food being taken from him, he would best be suited to an adult-only family. He is selective when it comes to socialising with other dogs and can be apprehensive around larger breeds, or those that are bigger than him. Alfie will need to be the only pet at home but could have well-suited walking buddies. A garden of his own is an essential requirement. 10. Freya - two-year-old Springer Spaniel (Raystede)
Freya is a timid young dog who has been receiving extra behavioural support at Raystede. She will need a family who are understanding of the support she will require to help build her confidence. She will also need a quiet home and with her own secure garden until she is ready for walks. Freya is worried by people she doesn’t know, particularly men, and cannot live with children. With people she trusts she is incredibly affectionate, bouncy and playful, Raystede said. Freya is very sociable with other dogs and would strongly benefit from living with another canine that is able to match her playful energy and support her in confidence building. Potential adopters will need to be able to visit the rehoming centre on several occasions to allow Freya to feel comfortable around them. 11. Waldo - 12-year-old Siberian Husky (Raystede)
Despite his age, Waldo is very exuberant and is proving himself to be a cheeky chap! Waldo would like a home with a secure garden and needs owners who can provide ongoing support for his joints. He is friendly towards people and could live with older teenagers. He would like to be the only dog in the home and cannot live with cats or small animals.
