New Eastbourne hotel owners to invest £1.2 million

The new owners of the Langham Hotel in Eastbourne plan to invest £1.2 million for refurbishment.

StudioStays Eastbourne completed the acquisition of the 113-year-old hotel in Royal Parade on Thursday, July 16 from Neil and Wendy Kirby, who announced their retirement after 21 years as owners.

The phased investment will include refurbishment of the outdoor terrace, with renovation to the reception area and bar set to take place in January 2027.

A spokesperson for StudioStays confirmed that the hotel will temporarily close in January to allow the works to take place.

The new owners have also retained all members of staff at the Langham, including General Manager Simon Brown.

A refresher, shorter menu will be introduced too after consultation with Head Chef Michael Tiverington.

Mr Brown said: “I'm excited to be part of this next chapter for The Langham Hotel Eastbourne.

“The first thing guests will notice is new approach in the restaurant – with a menu that brings in more seafood and puts local produce front and centre.”

Former owner Mr Kirby said: “Wendy and I poured our hearts into The Langham for 21 years, and it's been the privilege of our working lives.

“We are excited by Studio Stay’s vision for the hotel, their commitment to the team and the local community. We're excited to see what comes next.”

It comes after many readers shared their concerns for the future of the hotel under a change of ownership.

Sarah Vine commented: “Oh no! Such a lovely hotel, so well run. Going to miss it.

“I hope it doesn’t change too much, but I expect it will. Hope the owners have a lovely retirement, well deserved.”

Jeffrey Munday added: “Please don't change it . We love it and our family love it and often stay there.”
