Newhaven vicar to retire after 17 years of service to St Michaels Church

A Newhaven vicar will be retiring next month having run services at St Michael’s Church for 17 years.

Reverend Martin Miller is retiring at the beginning of September and has led the regular civic services like the Brazen Memorial, Dieppe Raid, Remembrance Sunday and Mayor’s Carol services.

Reflecting on his time in Newhaven, Martin said: “It has been such a privilege to serve God for 17 years here in Newhaven, and to be part of so many people’s lives over that time.

"It was particularly wonderful to be part of the 900th Anniversary celebrations of St Michael’s over the last two years.”

Reverend Miller and his wife Lucy were involved in setting up the Breakout drop in centre in Newhaven’s town centre in 2005.

The pair also recently set up a team of volunteers to prepare bagel breakfasts for pupils at Harbour School – where he was a Governor.

Martin’s farewell service at St Michael’s Church will be at 10am on Sunday (September 4).
