Ninfield Bonfire cancelled due to the weather
The village of Ninfield has cancelled its traditional bonfire celebrations on Saturday October 24 due to stormy weather conditions and high winds.
A spokesperson for the bonfire society said: “It is with enormous sadness and disappointment that we have made the difficult decision to cancel this year's Ninfield Bonfire Night due to the forecast high winds and adverse weather conditions. “After months of planning, preparation and hard work, this is a heart breaking decision for everyone involved. “However, with the strong winds forecast, and the nature of our torchlit procession, bonfire and fireworks display, the safety of our members, volunteers, residents and the wider public must always come first. “We know how much this event means to our village and to everyone who comes along to support this wonderful Sussex tradition. Please believe us when we say that nobody is more disappointed than we are. “To our incredible committee, members, volunteers, sponsors, supporters and local businesses - thank you. So much time, generosity and effort has gone into preparing for this year's event, and none of it has gone unnoticed or unappreciated. “We are truly sorry to disappoint everyone who was looking forward to joining us tomorrow evening, and we thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
