An RNLI spokesperson explained that it was requested to launch the all weather lifeboat to assist the inshore lifeboat due to reports of a person who injured their ankle while taking part in the challenge.

An RNLI spokesperson said: “Once on scene the casualty was transferred from the inshore lifeboat to the all weather lifeboat where the casualty was taken back to Sovereign Harbour before being transported to hospital.”

A representative from the event said: “It is always unfortunate if someone suffers an injury on our Lighthouse Challenge, and we always field a large team of over forty [staff] including St. John Ambulance and with the addition of the RNLI on standby just in case of [an] accident. It is therefore gratifying that all our precautions led to a successful outcome on this case”
