If you’re thinking about welcoming a dog into your home, why not consider rescuing?
These canines are currently in care at the RSPCA, which has branches in Chichester and Brighton.
Adoption fees vary between the branches, though both fees include neutering, vaccinations, microchips, flea treatments and worming.

9. Scooby - eight-year-old crossbreed
Scooby was picked up as a stray in poor condition, the RSPCA said. She is described as a very friendly, happy girl who seems very sociable with people. Scooby is young at heart and loves to play ball. She has been friendly with other dogs at the rescue centre, but will need a home without cats or small animals. Scooby may be able to live with teenage children who are experienced with dogs. Photo: RSPCA

10. Elwood - eight-year-old Staffie
Elwood is a friendly and affectionate boy who loves nothing more than a good neck scratch. He walks well on the lead (although he is strong for his size) and really enjoys playing ball. He would prefer a home where he will not be left on his own for too long as he loves human company. Elwood will need a home without cats. He may be able to live with teenagers who are experienced around dogs. Photo: RSPCA

11. Luna - four-year-old Shar-Pei
Luna is bright and active girl looking for owners who can appreciate 'the quirky and funny character that she is'. The RSPCA said she often makes everyone at the centre laugh, and can be very goofy. She'd be best living in an adult-only home or with older secondary children. She is very clean in the home and is crate trained. Typical of her breed, Luna comes with a list of known allergies. This will need to be carefully managed in the home as she is also a scrounger and will try to find snacks, the RSPCA said. She can be reactive on the lead and shows no interest in making canine friends. In her new home, she would benefit from positive, reward-based training. Photo: RSPCA

12. Storm - three-year-old crossbreed
Storm was 'dumped at the vets in an appalling condition', according to the RSPCA. The charity said she had been 'severely neglected' and was very emaciated and malnourished. Months later, Storm has transformed into a fun loving, cheeky girl who is described as 'a real character'. She loves her toys and will zoom around playing. Storm is also very affectionate and can be over enthusiastic with her love and kisses. Due to her past, Storm is fearful of strangers, though she has bonded beautifully with the staff at the RSPCA centre. She is also reactive towards other dogs and is undergoing training to manage this. Storm requires an adult only home with no other animals. Photo: RSPCA
