Storm Austen: Petworth House and Park closes due to high winds

The National Trust said the closure affects the entire site, including the historic house, gardens, park, shop and café.

It hopes to reopen on Saturday, October 24, although the park may open later than usual while tree safety checks are carried out.

Visitors are being urged to check the official Petworth House and Park website for the latest information before travelling.

The closure is in place today (Friday, October 23), as Storm Austen brings severe weather and travel disruption across Sussex. A yellow weather warning for wind is in place until 5pm, with gusts of 50 to 60mph possible and stronger gusts forecast in exposed coastal areas.

The storm has already caused disruption around the county, with roads blocked by fallen trees and other attractions closing as a precaution.
