The ballad of the greedy heron: a Lewes story in pictures

Photographer Gerry Bennett captured this amazing series of events right in the heart of Lewes on the River Ouse by the Linklater Pavilion.

It features a greedy heron whose eyes were bigger than his belly, whose problem was solved with a little help from his friends.

Gerry Bennett penned the captions as well as taking the pictures. “This was a really amazing experience to witness so close up,” he said.

“I’ve seen herons struggle with eels, and get in a real tangle, and also despatch small finger size fish but I sense this was a young heron who is still learning his trade - and I plus numerous others were there to witness it on a stunning, sunny, Sunday tea-time.”

Thank you Gerry!
