Jennie, of Feversham Close, Shoreham Beach, hurt her foot on Mount Kilimanjaro and later discovered she had broken a bone.

She said: “I went to Tanzania, climbed the mountain – bashed my foot at midnight on the final ascent and found out a few days later in a Tanzanian hospital that I’d broken a bone.

“So now I have a big ski boot from the wonderful NHS for six weeks.”

Jennie had taken on the climb for Hove charity Kiya Survivors as a personal challenge.

She said she had battled breast cancer six years ago and saw the climb as a test of her fitness and endurance.

She joined a guided, two-week trek from October 17 to 27 for an experience of a lifetime.

The trip included visits to the community projects being supported by Kiya Survivors, a UK initiative aiming to provide communities in Tanzania with the tools and knowledge to become more sustainable.

Jennie said: “The money I raise from my climb will go directly to employing a local teacher for a small projected based in Arusha, Tanzania.”
