Plans to change Horsham flat into small coffee shop approved

Plans to change a Horsham flat into a small coffee shop have been approved by the district council.

The application to change the use of part of Alexandra House, at 11 Queen Street, on the corner of Park Terrace East, was given the nod by planning officers.

Only one ground-floor flat will be changed. The other two flats in the building will not be touched.

A report from planning officers said: “The proposal, in a suitable and sustainable location, would allow the continued operation of a small business within Horsham town centre and Horsham town centre primary shopping area, supporting economic growth, providing local employment opportunities and supporting the vitality and viability of the town centre.”

The building is no stranger to drinks being served within its walls – Alexandra House used to be the Alexandra Inn, which closed in c1972.

But the hours of the new establishment will be rather different. The coffee shop will be open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 5pm and Sunday from 8am to 4pm.
