Permission sought to retain furniture storage in West Sussex farm building

A retrospective planning application has been submitted for the use of a farm building in Ashurst, to store furniture and goods for a retail premises.

The proposal concerns Building C at Ford Farm in Ford Lane, Ashurst, BN44 3AT.

The application seeks permission to change the use of the farm building to B8 storage. Its retrospective status means approval is being sought after the change of use has taken place.

A supporting planning statement – prepared by Absolute Town Planning – says the application seeks to ‘regularise an arrangement and use of some of the buildings at the site for storage’.

It clarifies that the latest application relates exclusively to Building C and was submitted at Horsham District Council’s request.

The statement says: “Building C is part used for furniture storage and part used to serve as storage for a retail premises.”

The application site covers a little over one hectare and forms part of a wider holding which, according to the statement, includes 41 hectares of land used for grazing and rewilding.

The farm lies north-west of Henfield and south-west of Partridge Green, in open countryside.

In its conclusions, the planning statement argues that the storage use does not harm neighbouring amenity or the surrounding landscape.

It says: “It is hoped that the LPA will continue to agree that the use is not giving rise to any amenity impacts.”

The statement adds that storage ‘has no impact on the appearance of the open countryside given the use is wholly contained within existing buildings and is a low traffic generator’.

The application, reference DC/26/1136, has been advertised as a major development.
