Plans for luxury riverside apartments on historic Littlehampton maritime site back on the agenda
New plans for apartments on the banks of the River Arun have been submitted, to include partial demolition of the last remaining pieces of Littlehampton's historic marine warehousing and fishing sheds.
Luxury apartments were previously approved for the Riverside Autos site in 2021 but the permission lapsed and then new plans for the site were refused in December 2025.
Dames A+P has now submitted an application on behalf of Jane Wood of Brownfield Estates for partial demolition of 57 River Road, change of use and redevelopment to provide a flatted development comprising nine apartments.
This would include private amenity space, parking and cycle storage, including the partial demolition of the adjacent boundary wall to provide a new pedestrian access and the creation of a floating pontoon with resident mooring spaces.

In a cover letter, Dames A+P said the reasons for refusal did not relate to the principle of development but to technical and design matters, such as flood risk.
The scheme has been revised and the agents say the updated technical information ensures these matters have been positively addressed. Comments to be made by November 12.
Speaking to the council when the 2021 application was under consideration, the site owner said she bought it to ‘save the last remaining pieces of the historic East Bank marine history of warehousing and fishing sheds’.
However, she described how the building was in such a dilapidated state, it could not be saved in its entirety.
