Rediscovered gems from folk archives

RARELY-heard tunes from early folk music archives will feature in a lunchtime concert in Shoreham.

Multi-instrumentalists the Rude Mechanicals will be performing Lady Pentweazle’s Maggot and other rediscovered gems at St Mary de Haura Church on Saturday at midday.

The varied programme, including special arrangements of folk dance tunes from the 19th century and earlier, will be played on a wide range of instruments.

Rude Mechanicals regulars Barry Ruffell and Ray Chandler are joined by Mick Parker and Tim Roycroft to expand the instrumental armoury.

In use will be a Swedish nyckelharpa, Cornish bagpipes, English concertina, mandolin, mandola, fiddle, guitar, banjo, flute, piccolo, piano accordion, keyboard and cello.

The event is part of the Adur Arts Live autumn festival. Entrance is free, with a retiring collection.
