Season ends on high note for Yapton growers

The 44 exhibitors provided a total of 305 entries, more than in 2012, and providing another visual delight in the society’s final show of the four held this year.

Flowers, fruits and vegetables were supplemented by flower arrangements, cookery, handicrafts, photography and children’s entries.

The general horticultural sections had fine flowering and foliage potted plants, a good range of cut flowers from the garden and several boxes of fuchsia florets.

Vegetable classes included many dishes of tomatoes, together with a particularly fine display of fruits – apples, pears, figs, grapes and quinces.

The giants of the garden and allotment were also to be seen, with sunflower heads, marrows, pumpkins and apples in competition.

Flower arrangements were again of a high standard, and cookery, photography and children’s classes were well contested.

About 80 visitors enjoyed viewing the exhibits and browsing the supporting side stalls before refreshing themselves with tea and a slice of cake
