Stone-throwing teens attack boy, 11, as he walked to school

An 11-year-old boy has been attacked as he walked to school in Crawley.

The lad had arrived by train and was walking along Chanctonbury Way just after 9am on Tuesday (October 15) when he was stopped by three boys, all aged around 16-17.

They demanded his mobile phone. He said he did not have one and tried to run, but his blazer was grabbed and ripped as he tried to get away.

The youths then threw stones at him as he ran.

Detective Sergeant Sian Harding said: “Fortunately, he stopped by the church on the junction of Horsham Road and Old Horsham Road where church-goers spotted him in distress and walked him to school.

“He is a newcomer to Crawley and this was obviously a very frightening experience for him.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack or has any information about the offenders, who are all described as being of mixed race.
