Students' kind-hearted donations to heart charity are in the bag

SIXTH-former Lara Collis put in bags of effort to create a successful fundraising campaign at Felpham Community College.

Lara, 17, encouraged her fellow members of the college’s charity committee to support the annual bagathon of the British Heart Foundation.

The result was some 60 bags bulging with all sorts of donated items.

“The bags contain everything that can be re-used,” said Lara. “They include books, shoes, jigsaw puzzles and clothes.

“We went into all the assemblies and asked them to bring in one thing for the bagathon.

“We worked really hard and I’m really happy with how it is turned out.

“Everyone was so supportive.”

The charity calculates every four bags contains about £100 worth of donated goods.

This means the college’s contribution will add up to about £1,500.

This will help fund heart nurses, research projects and heart monitors.

Lara was inspired to organise the bagathon by her Sunday volunteering sessions for four hours at the BHF’s shop in Bognor Regis town centre.

She carries out a range of duties, including serving customers and sorting donations.
