Ewhurst and Staplecross Bonfire Society will welcome revellers to the village tomorrow (Saturday) for an evening of family fun and flames.

The big day will kick off at 5.30pm with a fancy dress competition in Staplecross Village Hall with categories open for adults and juniors alike.

The best tableaux award will be judged during the torchlit procession, which will set off from next to Rosefield Cottage in Northiam Road at 7.15pm.

The procession will wind its way from Staplecross to Cripps Corner before heading back to Staplecross and to the bonfire field.

The fire site has moved to a new location this year, and cane be found in a field just over and down the road from the Cross Inn.

8.30pm will see the lighting of the giant bonfire and a grand firework display at 9pm will bring the night to a close.

The roads will be closed between Staplecross and Cripps Corner from 7-10pm.

Visitors are asked not to park in the road but to make use of the free parking next to the Cross Inn.

Admission to the event is £1.

Proceeds from the collection buckets are donated to local charities and organisations.

Past recipients have included St Michael’s Hospice, Demelza House, Sussex Air Ambulance, Ewhurst Football Club and Staplecross School.

Cheques will be presented at the bonfire society’s annual carol service, to be held this year at St Marks Church in Staplecross in December.
