Traffic studies follow calls for action on roads

STUDIES are being carried out to solve the problem of speeding vehicles along an Aldwick road.

County council highways officers are installing a traffic monitoring strip across Fish Lane.

This will show the speed at which drivers are travelling as well as the type of vehicle being driven. The action was reported to Aldwick Parish Council’s meeting on Monday.

The council’s chairman, Cllr Dr Tony Poland, said one solution could be to put in a speed warning sign which flashed at drivers who broke the speed limit. One of the signs is in use in Pagham Road.

Funding for the £5,000 estimated cost could come from the council and others such as Arun and West Sussex.

A further study into parking along Aldwick Street is also getting under way.

Both investigations are in response to residents’ concerns about traffic conditions along the busy neighbouring roads.

Two residents of Fish Lane have presented a petition about the speed of traffic along there to the county council. Their county councillor, Paul Wells, has also been involved. He hosted a recent meeting for some 30 people.
