A27 traffic: National Highways gives update following major disruption in East Sussex
National Highways has provided an update on the A27 Lewes Road roadworks that have caused major disruption in East Sussex.
The works caused traffic chaos on Thursday (October 15), infuriating road users caught up in the queues.
The temporary traffic lights, in place due to electrical works, are due to be in place until Monday, November 30 at 5am, according to one.network.
National Highways confirmed Gainsborough Way, one of the three directions feeding into the junction between Lewes Road and Eastbourne Road, was closed overnight on Thursday.

The temporary lights subsequently remained green in both directions, with pedestrian crossing activation working.
The highways company said that there had been a “significant decrease in congestion” on Friday (October 16), with a repair to the road due to be carried out “very soon”.
Unlike normal traffic lights, the temporary ones cannot operate in response to live traffic conditions.
Lewes MP James MacCleary said on Thursday that he had contacted National Highways seeking “urgent clarification” following the disruption.
