Crawley woman among three arrested after fatal collision

A woman from Crawley and two people from the Horsham area have been arrested following a fatal collision last night (Friday September 27).

A silver Citreon Xsara was travelling southbound on the A29 at 8.05pm at Codmore Hill when it overtook a grey Audi Q7, crossing a double white line onto the opposite carriageway.

It collided with a bicycle, lost control and crashed. The driver fled the scene.

The 27-year-old woman rider of the bicycle from Kingsfold died from her injuries at the scene.

Two people were arrested at the scene, a 22-year-old woman from Crawley and a 17-year-old boy from Horsham, for death by dangerous driving, drink driving and theft of a vehicle.

A 26-year-old man from Billingshurst, believed to be the driver, was arrested in Storrington for death by dangerous driving, drink driving and driving while disqualified.

They all remain in custody today.

Sergeant Stewart Goodwin from the road policing team said: “We are appealing for anyone who saw a silver car travelling in the Stane Street area around 8pm. We need to speak to any witnesses who saw what happened or saw the car prior to the collision. Please speak to us on 101 or email [email protected] quoting Operation Barnward.”
