Delays likely as another A27 closure takes place this weekend

Work to complete a new roundabout on the A27 between Lancing and Shoreham is ongoing – with three complete weekend closures still needed on the busy road.

To allow the team to finish off drainage, install ducting across the carriageway and lay the final road surface at New Monks Farm, there will be some weekend closures of the eastbound carriageway between Manor Roundabout and the Adur flyover junction:

Following on from a full closure last weekend, there are three more upcoming weekend closures on – with the first happening this weekend:

9pm on Friday, April 26, to 6am on Monday, April 29

9pm on Friday, May 10, to 6am on Monday, May 13

9pm on Friday, June 7, to 6am on Monday, June 10

National Highways, which is responsible for the road, said a diversion will be in place via the A27, A24 and A283.

Local access will be maintained to the airport and residents with direct access off the eastbound A27 within the closure.

There will also be regular overnight lane closures on both sides of the A27 over the next few months. Work is due to be completed in June 2024.

East Worthing and Shoreham MP Tim Loughton said: “The main diversion will as usual be via the A259 and so I have reminded West Sussex Highways Department that it would be a very good idea to make sure there are no roadworks scheduled on those weekends that could possibly be avoided.

"That stretch of the A259 has become notorious for poorly organised roadworks involving lane closures and inevitable traffic chaos between the Saltings roundabout and Lancing Beach Green, often masquerading as emergency work when it is not.

"Anyone following my campaign on inconsiderate roadworks will have seen me there sounding off several times! Please keep your eyes peeled and let me know if this does not turn out to be the case, although I am sure it will be difficult to miss.”
