Stagecoach updates emergency bus arrangements for The Witterings after road closure
Stagecoach has updated its bus arrangements between Chichester and The Witterings following an emergency road closure.
The bus operator confirmed that both Services 52 and 53 will operate between Stockbridge Co-op and The Witterings from Wednesday, October 28, as emergency repairs continue on Chichester Road.
In its initial announcement on October 26, Stagecoach said all journeys on the emergency shuttle would operate as Service 53, with buses departing the Co-op at 30 minutes past each hour.
The latest announcement confirms that both service numbers will now be used on the emergency route.

The emergency arrangements were introduced after West Sussex Highways closed the B2201 near Donnington on October 26.
Two potholes, each approximately 140mm deep, prompted the closure because they were considered too large and too close together to repair safely under temporary traffic signals.
Repair work was further complicated when engineers discovered a water leak in the affected area on October 27. Portsmouth Water subsequently repaired the leak the following day.
The road had been serving as a diversion route for Services 52 and 53 while Stockbridge Road was closed for gas main replacement works.
Stagecoach said many rural roads between Hunston and The Witterings were unsuitable for large vehicles, leaving ‘no safe alternative route’ for its buses.
Passengers travelling to or from Chichester will need to walk to or from the Co-op on Stockbridge Road to connect with the emergency service.
The last bus departure from the Co-op is scheduled for 11.30pm.
Stagecoach said the arrangements would remain in place until the B2201 reopens or a safe and viable alternative route can be identified.
A spokesperson for Stagecoach said: “We apologise for the disruption and appreciate your patience while we work to find a safe solution.
“However, the safety of our customers and staff remains our top priority. Further updates will be provided as soon as more information becomes available.”
