Sussex travel: A26 closed due to police incident; 'severe' delays on A27; collision near Polegate
Several incidents are impacting travel across Sussex this evening (Monday, September 21).
Lewes
The A26 in Lewes, near the Cuilfail Tunnel, is closed due to a police incident.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services were called shortly before 4pm over concerns for a man’s welfare.
“Road closures on the A26 are in place from the Southerham roundabout through to the Cuilfail Tunnel, which is closed in both directions at the Malling Street roundabout.
“Motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency services respond to this incident, and to expect delays.”
Traffic is delayed on the A27 between Beddingham and Ashcombe Roundabout. There are also delays of around seven minutes on A277 Western Road, Lewes, according to AA Traffic News.
Wealden
Two vehicles have also reportedly been involved in a collision in Jevington Road, Wannock.
The road is partially blocked both ways at Old Mill Lane, according to AA Traffic News.
Nearby, there are delays of up to ten minutes on the A27 at the Drusillas Roundabout, and on the A259 Wallsend Road, Pevensey.
A partial closure is in place on the A26 in Little Horsted due to ‘emergency repairs’. This is impacting traffic both ways between Worth Lane and Little Horsted Roundabout, according to AA Traffic News.
An AA alert reads: “The sensors show traffic can now pass the scene after a full closure earlier.”
Horsham
Three fire engines and an off road vehicle are in attendance.
An AA traffic alert reads: “Road blocked due to fire department activity on Grouse Road both ways from Forest Road to Hammerpond Road. Traffic is coping well.”
Adur
A27 Old Shoreham Road is partially blocked due to a ‘stalled’ vehicle, according to the AA.
Traffic is reportedly queueing from A283 Steyning Road (Steyning turn off) to the Brighton City Airport turn off.
Nearby, there are ‘severe’ delays of eleven minutes on A27 Upper Brighton Road westbound between A270 Upper Shoreham Road (Southwick / Holmbush turn off) and A2025 Grinstead Lane (Sompting Roundabout).
AA Traffic News also reports delays of nine minutes between A259 High Street and A259 Brighton Road in Lancing.
