The tree fell from the grounds of Springfield Park due to strong winds at about 3pm, but it is believed nobody was injured.

Police attended the scene to manage traffic, as half the road and one footpath was blocked, though the road has been cleared by a tree surgeon this morning (Monday).

Peter Thair, a director of the management company at Springfield Park, said: “We are glad that nobody else has been affected and nobody was hurt.

“We have had branches fall but nothing this large before.

“It is disappointing, and it has also caused some damage to the wall, which was due to have some work done on it next week - so we are glad it didn’t happen after that.”

The damaged wall, which runs between Springfield Park and North Parade, is a grade II listed monument.
