WI MEET: May's Women's Institute meeting is on May 11 at the Lucas Hall. It will be preceded by lunch at 1pm and members are asked to let Lesley Cooper know if they will want to be included. The main meeting begins at 2.30pm as usual and will be our annual resolutions meeting when members decide if they wish to support the proposed resolutions put up from our national body for adoption as national policy. There are two resolutions for discussion- food waste and carers and dementia. The first resolution proposes: WI calls on all supermarkets to sign up to a voluntary agreement to avoid food waste by passing on surplus food to charities thus helping address the issue of increasing food poverty in the UK. The second resolution deals with the subject of carers and dementia and the wording of that resolution will passed on as soon as it is made available by our officers.

FRENCH: Tomorrow (Saturday), Waldron goes French at the pub with a special menu of French cuisine and music from Django Jazz. Book in advance if you want to be sure of a table. Berets optional. By the way, there will be no pub quiz in May due to the May and Spring Bank Holidays taking up two Mondays

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH: There is a recent report of two men trying to sell off left-over gravel in Waldron. Their white van registration is SK65 HGD with a yellow and red stripe on the back door and residents are advised that they have been reported to the police.

CRICKET NET: Users of the village recreation ground will have noticed a new arrival parked at the moment beside the children’s play area. It’s the cricket club’s new practice net, purchased after a great fund-raising effort to raise the cash and now in place. Tim Page-Ratcliff, chairman of the club, has thanked all those involved through donations, grants, auctions, dinners, lunches, advertising revenue and careful management of the club finances. The team has now been playing for a couple of weeks and the next match (away) is on Sunday against Tunbridge Wells starting at 2pm. On Thursday Waldron will also be playing away, against Heathfield Park, a T20 match for the Oakshott Cup and start-time will be 6pm.

RUDE MECHANICALS: Early warning that the Rude Mechanicals will be starting their summer tour round the rural villages of southern England, this time bringing their new play MacByrd which is described as a comedy thriller set in 1940s Jevington. While George, a retired mechanic, tends his Dig for Victory wartime veg patch, keeping an eye on the bombers criss-crossing the summer sky above him, there’s a parallel plot amongst the birds with a menacing raven and some vicious magpies playing leading roles. Sounds great, don’t miss it when it comes to Waldron on Thursday August 11. The performance will start at 7.30pm in the field behind the pub and remember to bring your own chair and wear warm clothing. SERVICES: This Sunday’s morning services are both at All Saints’ at 8am for Holy Communion and at 10am for Parish Eucharist. Coffee and cake to follow. Weddings are taking place at All Saints’ during May on Saturday May 7 at 3.30pm, Saturday May 14 at 11am and 3pm and on Saturday May 28 at 2.30pm.
