Shock as ‘Shrek and skeleton’ tea party display crushed by falling tree in Seaford during Storm Austen
A Halloween tea party display in Seaford was crushed by a tree that fell during Storm Austen.

She later shared the picture with this newspaper.
Her post said: “To everyone who’s stopped by, taken photos and shown our little Shrek and skeleton tea party on Homefield Road so much love this Halloween...thank you!
“The gang were holding up so well against the weather… unfortunately, the tree wasn’t! After last night’s winds, Mother Nature decided to join the tea party and absolutely wreck the place.”
Els said she is not sure whether the display is salvageable.
She later told the Sussex Express that the spooky set-up had been ‘bringing smiles and giggles’ to people in the area for weeks and said it was ‘a real shock’ to wake up and find it had been destroyed.
Els said: “Despite the strong winds, I checked the decorations at 6.45am and everything was fine. By 7am, a beautiful tree had fallen and snapped across our entire front garden, crushing the decorations. We hadn’t heard a thing, and my partner discovered the damage when leaving for work, finding the front door almost blocked.
“Thankfully, the tree narrowly missed the house and caused only light scratches to our van. It was also fortunate it fell away from my parked car.
“Although we’re devastated to lose such a beautiful tree, loved by many and especially gorgeous when in bloom, we’re incredibly relieved that nobody was hurt and are extremely grateful for everybody who came to check on our family.”
